Hi, I introduced myself in another thread -- the wrong place, it seems! Please excuse... My name is Jan Letoha (last name is my husband's -- Hungarian), and I'm an upper grades history teacher, used to be writer, along with a traditional and digital artist. My work can be seen at www. indeptharts.com Not advertising for another forum...it's just that's the only place my work is posted, for the most part. One or two pieces are at the Newtek/Lightwave site, and a few are at Wet Canvas, but most are at Indepth. I live in South Georgia, USA, and I am a die-hard Democrat...can't wait for the currrent administration to implode. I've been a teacher for 25 years, have all the necessary graduate degrees except the Ph.D., and that's because no college within 200 miles offers a Ph.D. in history. I absolutely refuse to get a doctorate in any facet of education. Waste of time. I just discovered Kim Wilkin's books, referred by 'em by a British friend at Indepth, actually. I'm reading The Resurrectionists, right now, in ebook form (my first ebook!) because that's the only way I could get it from Amazon. I'm actually becoming quite fond of the ebook format, and I totally love The Resurrectionists! It's right up my alley...modern gothic, I guess? Anyway, it's enthralling, and I'm anxious to read more of Kim's stuff. Well, that's about it. Nice to meet y'all, as we say in the South. Jan P.S. Oh, as far as other authors I enjoy...well, there sure are a lot! Erin Hart writes great Irish mysteries, a blend of history and forensic science. Sorta like Cold Case files. Barbara Michaels/Elizabeth Peters, but she's about phfffted out. Sue Grafton and her Kinsey Milhone are good standbys. Sharon McCrumb writes good creepy Southern mysteries. Ann Rice's The Witching Hour series was great, but I don't much care for her other stuff. Anya Seton -- she's an older writer, but Green Darkness turned me on to reincarnation whilst I was in my teens -- a concept to which I am firmly committed. Now, when I close, I'll think of another one, but that's surely enough for now. ;D

Welcome, Jan . It's always good to meet another Sue Grafton fan. I'll be sure to try out some Erin Hart next time I'm at the library. She sounds interesting.

Thanks, Hellion, for the welcome! Sue Grafton's books are a good ol' standby for me -- I haven't read 'em all, and if I run short of reading material, I know I can always find a Kinsey Milhone mystery I haven't read...or that I can re-read. I feel like Kinsey is my long-lost sister -- we've got a lot in common. One reviewer called her a "borderline delinquent," and I think I fit in that category, too. ;D About Erin Hart -- if you like any of the CSI series, you'll love her books. She mixes "old" mysteries (kinda like Kim) with modern mysteries, plus forensic science. A fascinating combination! You're from Australia, huh? I have a great online friend from Australia. Her name's Maeve, and she's a teacher like me as well as being a spectacular artist with her own wonderful style. I've never seen an artist with a style quite like hers. She's in the middle of a show now and her work seems to be catching on very well. This is the first literary forum I've ever joined. I like it! Jan

Name (or alias): megs Location: Brisbane, Australia Favourite of Kim's books: hmm, Grimoire I think, but Autumn Castle and The Resurrectionists are a close second, but they're all great Favourite of Kim's characters: Peter Owling, he was an utterly detestable villian! I also liked Eisengrimm (is that right)?, Sacha, Cristian, there are plenty of interesting good characters as well. Other authors you enjoy reading: Clive Barker, Whitley Streiber, Stephen King, Franz Kafka, HP Lovecraft, Robert E Howard, Edgar Allen Poe, the Bronte sisters... Any other interests: Reading, writing, movies, music

Name: David Location: Brisbane Favourite of Kim's books: Rosa, and Angel of Ruin, and the Gina Champion series. Favourite character: Tabby in The Resurrectionists - I was so glad Kim didn't let her get hurt or killed, but the tension was always there. Favourite human character: Gina Champion. Other fave authors: Lois McMaster Bujold, Jim Butcher, Connie Willis, Steven Brust ... the list goes on. Other interests: My passion is reading, by my interests are legion. I am not a writer, and get my creative outlet by doing glass art - mainly Tiffany lamps (OK, not Gothic, but at least Art Nouveau), but I have made a porthole window for my front door using a design from ca. 1270 ad taken from an excavated window found near Bradwell Abbey in England, and as I like to tell people, made again for the first time in over 700 years. I also like to visit and spoil shamelessly my friend Tina's two Devon Rex cats (aka "the girls"), Cocoa (the bold) and Sasha (the wise).! I have been working for almost 11 years in one of the workshops at the University of Queensland, making apparatus for research. Our oldest academic, Professor Emeritus Aaron Flood, is especially enthusiastic about our Soul-ar Power Containers, though he seems a bit creepy. Other activities I like are growing orchids (Brisbane is great for this, you don't need glasshouses - just tie them onto handy trees!, investing (get rich slow), and geology.

I'm Dawn, a new member here. I live in a small community in the central North Island of New Zealand, close to Lake Taupo.
My favourite book of Kim's would have to be Angel of Ruin, partly because that was my first Kim Wilkins read. I'm sure you all know that delicious feeling when you discover a new writer that you love. And you look on the library shelf and see that there are more books there by them. I'm in heaven when that happens. I've enjoyed everything I've read by Kim - no real favourite, except as mentioned above.
I also enjoy Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Tami Hoag, and Elizabeth George.
Interests include writing, reading, gardening and animals.

Name (alias): I'm using Kimarie as two "Kim"s on the board could get confusing. Location: Blue Mountains in New South Wales Favourite Book: I have a soft spot for Grimoire because it was the first book I read but Rosa really made me think about how I would react in such a situation and the Russian setting was superb (great promo video). Favourite Character: Em (Rosa) and Deborah (Angel of Ruin) because they were both such resourceful women who did not sit and wait to be rescued. Other Authors: Robin Hobb, Kate Forsyth, Derek Hansen, Trevanian, Peter Hamilton, Naomi Novik, Mary Doria Russell, John Farris............sorry, the list is endless. Any other interests: Movies and trivia, any internet site to do with books/authors, decoupage, wordgames and sudoku.

Nice to meet you, Kimarie. I'm fairly new to this site too (I'm the intro above yours!) I shall take a look at some of the authors you like. If we both love Kim's writing then I'm sure there will be a few there that I love.

Thank you for the friendly welcome Dawn. Although I have authors who are real favourites it's great to have someone with a similar interest recommend a new writer. I'm partial to fantasy/scifi but read too much to settle for just one genre. Kim's site has attracted a lot of interesting people and I'm looking forward to being able to join in some of the discussions.
