Can someone recommend me an anthology please? There must be one out there somewhere that collects all the best known eerie tales of people like Henry James, M.R. James, Sheridan Le Fanu, Wilkie Collins et al, along with some authors I don't know and probably should.

I have a book at home, but I don't know the name of it (I think it might be just "Victorian Ghost Stories"). I'll check and get back to you. In the meantime, many of those sorts of stories are probably in the public domain and free on the internet by now, the only catch is that you need to know the names!

The book is "Classic Ghost Stories: The Great Stories from the Victorian and Edwardian Era," edited by Richard Dalby, published by The Book Company, Sydney in 1997.

Thanks, megs. I'll put it on my library list. You might also like "Victorian Detective Stories" (ed: Michael Cox). I think that collection and a steady diet of Conan Doyle are to blame for most of my attempts at fiction so far .
