I just heard that Leaves Eyes is touring Australia sometime in September this year.
I always thought of their work as a soundtrack to Giants of the Frost given their themes of lost love/ Norwegian mythology (I read/ listened to both around the same time 2004 and now I can't think of one without the other).

I'd never heard of them before you posted this, Megs, but I like European metal (he says while slaying dragons to the accompaniment of Blind Guardian) and might just give them a listen. I'm not crazy about death vocals, but it sounds like they don't do that sort of thing very often . At the risk of threadjacking, Blind Guardian are the sort of band you'd get if you threw vintage Queen, Dio-era Rainbow and 80s Metallica into a blender and switched it on. Their new album "A Twist In The Myth" is due in September.

Don't worry, Liv Kristine (singer) actually sounds like a woman (or angel rather) and the male vocalist keeps his mouth shut about 80% of the time. The band is really all about her voice. As for Blind Guardian, I have heard of them before. An amusing story really. An old friend of mine was obsessed with lord of the rings when the movies came out and tried to find everything lord of the rings related on the net. She doesn't know much about metal (she was into Garth Brooks or something) and inadvertantly downloaded this lord of the rings themed blind guardian album. Without listening to it, she bought it to work and stuck it on the cd player. You should have seen everyone's faces

She doesn't know much about metal (she was into Garth Brooks or something) and inadvertantly downloaded this lord of the rings themed blind guardian album. Without listening to it, she brought it to work and stuck it on the cd player. You should have seen everyone's faces Oh God, that's hilarious! The album you mentioned is Nightfall In Middle Earth (1998) and it's based on The Silmarillion. Blind Guardian wrote an orchestral score for the LOTR films as well, but couldn't persuade Peter Jackson to use it. It seems I *have* heard of Leaves Eyes before, even if I haven't listened to them. Their second album Vinland Saga is mentioned in a catalogue I got with a CD I ordered from Ebay last year. Hmmm...
